Flexible working enables an employee to fit work in according to their needs. This not only means that their start and finish times might be flexible but that they may be able to work from home. All employees that have worked for the same employer for a period of at least twenty-six weeks are eligible to request flexible working. It is important to note that flexible working does not only apply to parents and carers.

If an employer fails to handle a request for flexible hours in a reasonable manner, the employee is then entitled to take them to an Employment Tribunal and may be awarded compensation.
